American Made Vinyl F.A.Q.’s

What’s in your vinyl?  
AMVE’s formulation is a result of many years of experience in the PVC industry.   Natural gas, crude oil and salt are the base ingredients used in the production of Poly Vinyl Chloride resin. Our vinyl compound is formulated from only premium grade raw materials obtained from sources in the continental USA, which include PVC resin, impact modifiers, UV inhibitors, and stabilizers. Using only best raw materials in conjunction with a time-tested formulation produces a vinyl profile that is far superior to the rest of the industry as a whole.  Every single truckload is tested before it is released to production, which guarantees a high quality product. 
 
 
 
What is virgin vinyl?  
Virgin Vinyl is the term used for vinyl which does not contain recycled products. Recycled products that are purchased, ground up, and introduced to the extrusion process may contain contaminates or low grade vinyl that can be seriously detrimental to the physical properties of the finished product.  AMVE uses only virgin ingredients in the extruding of our products.

How is a vinyl profile made?  
Our vinyl fence starts ou t as a high quality PVC compound that is fed into an extruder.  During the extrusion process friction and very high pressure creates heat which melts the compound into a soft taffy-like consistency.  This vinyl is then forced through a die in the shape of the finished profile. After going through the die the vinyl then passes through a series of vacuum sizers and water tanks to keep the hot vinyl in its proper shape until it is cool to the touch.

How is your fencing assembled?  
In most cases assembly is done by snapping the specially tabbed rails into the post.   Depending upon the type of fence and application different fasteners can be used.
 
 
Will AMVE’s  vinyl profiles turn yellow?  
As long as you spray it down periodically it will not turn yellow.

Will I ever see mildew on my American Made Vinyl fence?    
Mildew feeds only on organic materials.   If you do see mildew on your fence it is only because dirt has become stuck or embedded into the vinyl.  The non-porous, smooth finish of our profiles makes it very difficult for dirt or other contaminates to adhere, making it nearly impossible for mildew to develop.   If mildew does develop because of constantly wet and damp conditions, it can very easily be removed with water and bleach.

Do your profiles ‘chalk’?  
Because we use a special non-chalking TIO2, our fencing will have very minimal chalking even after years of exposure to the elements.

I want to paint my vinyl fence.   Can I?  
It’s your fence and it’s a free country, but we don’t understand why you would want to and strongly advise against it.   The whole reason you went to vinyl was to get away from painting, remember?

How much more than wood does a vinyl fence cost?  
In most areas of the country a new vinyl fence will cost slightly more than a wooden one.   When all of the costs are factored in, a vinyl fence will actually save you money in over the long run in maintenance costs (painting, staining, replacing split or broken boards).   These costs coupled with having to replace the wooden fence in 10 to 15 years makes vinyl the clear money saver.

What effects does my vinyl fence have on our environment?    
AMVE's vinyl products are safe and non-toxic.  All of our materials are lead free.   They will not break down or release toxic chemicals into the ground and will never require stains, acids, waterproofing, paint, or paint thinner for regular upkeep like pressure treated wood can.   AMVE's vinyl will not leach chromium, copper and arsenic into the ground as treated lumber does.   No trees are used in the manufacturing process of American Made Vinyl fencing.   The long life of our fence eliminates the need to rebuild every few years, saving even more trees.  

Can my vinyl fence break?  
Anything will break if enough force is applied. However, American Made Vinyl’s vinyl profiles have excellent impact modifiers that provide an impact rating far beyond what is required by ASTM standards.
